Key Differences Between Work Visa and Business Visa

  • Purpose: Business visa is meant for temporary commercial activities and work visa is meant for legal employment.
  • Length: A work visa is issued for a long-term stay and includes a residence permit, while a business visa is generally for a short-term visit.
  • Rights to work: You may only work and be paid through a Chinese employer with a Work Visa. Business Visa holders are not permitted to work.
  • Documents Required: Usually, a work visa is granted with a work permit, an employment contract and an invitation letter. Normally you will need an invitation from a Chinese business and proof of your travel arrangements for a Business Visa.
