You Won’t Believe Who’s Running the Great North Run 2024!

The 2024 Great North Run is almost here, and with it comes the energy and excitement of one of the world’s most famous half marathons. This event, scheduled for Sunday, September 8, will see over 60,000 runners embark on a thrilling 13.1-mile journey from Newcastle to South Shields. Whether you're a runner, a spectator, or just curious about the event, here’s what you need to know about the race and some crucial new guidelines.

New Guidelines for Spectators: No-Go Areas

This year, race organizers have introduced a couple of significant changes aimed at improving the experience for runners and ensuring safety along the route. There are two key no-go areas for spectators this year:

The Tyne Bridge – Normally a hotspot for cheering fans, the Tyne Bridge will be closed to spectators due to restoration work. Only pedestrians will be allowed to walk across one side, with marshals ensuring safety throughout the day.
The Starting Line – To streamline the start process and give runners more space, the starting line will be closed to spectators. Friends and family are encouraged to pick alternative spots to watch the race.
These changes have been made to optimize public safety and runner experience, and organizers are urging spectators to choose one spot to cheer from due to the high volume of people along the route
